OBJECTIVES, RULES AND REGULATIONS
OPEN SHOW FINE ARTS & CRAFTS EXHIBITORS MUST ABIDE BY THE GENERAL RULES.
 1.      OBJECTIVES
To be a major point of cultural and aesthetic interest in the Big Bend Area and to serve three primary functions:
  1. To bring Fair visitors fine art of high quality and varied subject matter.
  2. To provide Florida artists with an opportunity to participate in a juried competition of such quality that a certain degree of satisfaction may be achieved whether an award is won or not.
  3. To encourage people in the field of art to exhibit fine art in a variety of media.

 2.      RULES AND REGULATIONS

  1. Entries in the Open Fine Arts & Crafts Department show are open to residents of the Big Bend Area who are 18 years of age or older.  Any exhibitor 18 years of age and enrolled in school may enter either the Open or Junior Department shows, but not both.
  2. Each work of art will be screened at registration for the following before being accepted for display.
  3. Entries must be the original work of the artist exhibiting.
  4. Work must never have been exhibited in this show before and must have been completed during the last two years.
  5. An exhibitor may make two entries in any one class, but the exhibitors will not be given more than one prize in any one class, except in the case of Best of Show awards.
  6. No duplicate awards will be given.
  7. Paintings, photographs and drawings must be framed and equipped with wire for hanging.  ART WORK USING SCOTCH TAPE, MASKING TAPE OR ADHESIVE HANGERS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED FOR DISPLAY.
  8. Multiple photos in a frame are considered as one entry.  HOWEVER, only two photographs per frame will be accepted.  Three or more photos within a frame will not be accepted.
  9. A hand printed card or typewritten sticker containing the artist’s name, address, telephone number, whether or not the item is for sale, and a listing of all media used in the entry must be attached to the back of each item to be exhibited.
  10. Due to the family nature of the Fair, no nude art will be accepted. Nothing inappropriate, distasteful nor controversial or deemed unsuitable for family viewing will be accepted for display.
  11. Artwork incorporating weapons of any kind, or prepared using video methods or commercial kits will not be accepted for display.
  12. Two-dimensional artwork is limited in size to 42” in any direction including the frame, if piece is framed.
  13. If due to the lack of space all entries cannot be exhibited, then further screening will take place based on the quality of work so as to present the best possible show. This may result in the withdrawal of some registered artwork from display.
  14. Art work just completed and still wet (e.g. paint, wet glue) will not be accepted.

 3.      JUDGING AND AWARDS

  1. Entries should be submitted with the understanding that judging will include: quality of craftsmanship, originality and suitability of material to the idea expressed.
  2. Professional and amateur work will be judged separately. A professional artist is one who produces art for sale or realizes a portion of his/her annual income from same, or has completed four years of study of art in a college or in an accredited art school, or teaches art instruction.
  3. In the amateur division, first, second, and third place awards and honorable mention ribbons will be awarded in each class. First prize money will be given only, when there are three or more entries in a class by three or more exhibitors, except in cases when the judge feels the work merits it. It will be the decision of the judge whether or not a class merits any or all of the awards belonging to that class. Premiums will be paid for the awards as marked in the judge’s book and not from ribbons that may be attached to the exhibit.
  4. In the professional division, prize money will be awarded to first place winners in each class only.  Ribbons will be awarded to winners in first, second and third places as well as honorable mention in each class.  First prize money will be awarded only, when there are three or more entries in a class by three or more exhibitors, except in cases when the judge feel the work merits the award.
